Essential German Uniform List
What a rekruit needs to take to the field
So you've decided to join the ranks of the German Army.  The following list and the accompanying descriptions are not comprehensive.  It is short and quick, covering only the minimal you need to get to the field.  It is designed to save you money and aggravation!  If it is not on this list, wait, don't buy it!  CONSULT with the SQUAD LEADER beforehand!  Focus on what you need.  After you've acquired the essentials, then feel free to splurge on extras!
THE BASIC GEBIRGSJÄGER UNIFORM:

M-36 or M-40 TUNIC:
Field gray with Edelweiss Badge on right sleeve with Gebirgsjager waffenfarbe (branch) shoulderboards.

MOUNTAIN TROUSERS: Stone gray uniform pants. M-43 Keilhosen ok for late war.

SHIRT: 1941 style in gray-green with or without breast pockets

MOUNTAIN CAP: The issue cap "Bergmütze" with Edelweiss cap badge

LEG PUTTEES:
These were used early in the war, worn over the calf as leggins

MOUNTAIN or LOW BOOTS: 
3/4 ankle boot, black or brown leather, w/hobnails

BELT & BUCKLE: 
ARMY buckle, black or dark brown rough-out leather belt
THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS ENTIRE OUTFIT: Around $500.00

HESSEN ANTIQUE: A Great Vendor that sells almost everything you need for your uniform needs.

AT THE FRONT: A WWII German vendor that sells correct low boots for .  They have correct rough-out brown leather uppers and hobnails are already attached.  COST: $180.00


When money is tight:
Buy the uniform set!
You can also buy your uniform piece by piece as you can afford it.

WARNING: Don't buy uniforms from "unknown" vendors.
A typical gebirgstruppe in field gray tunic, stone gray mountain trousers, puttees & mountain boots.
Note: the field gray tunic is usually a more gray/green color than this stylized picture.
